About the event

The day before this retreat, we commemorate Hildegard of Bingen - a remarkable woman who deserves to be better known.

Brought up in a wealthy family, she became a nun at the age of 15, having received regular visions from God since she was just 8 years old.

At first glance, she might seem so mystical that we’d struggle to relate her life to ours, but Hildegard was deeply grounded in the world around her. She was a prolific letter writer, a composer of exquisite music - some of which we’ll enjoy together - and the author of many books exploring the creeds, the Gospels, the nature of humanity, medicine, poetry, and the natural world.

Together we will uncover her story, delve into her treasure trove of music, imagery and reflective writing which all flowed from her deep devotion to God, and find inspiration and encouragement as we journey on…
