"Let's talk about.."

"Let's Talk" events are organised by the Commitee for Social Responsability, and are open all those who wish to come and share their experiences and concerns with regard to everyday parish life. 

The events are free to attend, and include tea and cake but places must be booked in advance via Hannah Jones:

Let's Talk about Money - Helping people in debt

20th January - 10.00am - 12.30pm

This session is open to all those who support people who are facing debt or financial difficulties. What practical support and signposting can we offer and how well resourced are we to be effective in often critical circumstances.

 

Let's Talk about the Real Life of a Vicar- Life behind the collar (Clergy)

5th February - 10.00am - 12.30pm

This session is open to all those who feel that the lived experience of priestly life and the public perception can sometimes be in tension or even at odds.

 

Let's Talk about Rural Issues

6th March - 1.30pm - 4.00pm 

This session is open to all those who work in a rural parish or worship in a rural setting – what is the distinct nature of their experience and is there scope for co-operative working and a new way to see living faith in a rural setting.

 

Let's Talk about Green Spaces

19th April - 10.00am - 12.30pm

This session is open to all those who have a very special approach to their outdoor spaces which is integral to church life. It is also a chance for those just starting to consider this approach to come and learn from the experiences of “church in the outdoors”.

 

Let's Talk about How to be a Vicar and Run a Marathon - Time management plus! (Clergy)

2nd May - 1.30pm - 4.00pm

This session is open to all those who have been able to weave the most incredible experiences and activities into the everyday tasks of parish ministry (published authors, marathon runners, dry stone wallers, to name but a few!). It is also for those who want to think more constructively about their time and the opportunities that an adventurous spirit can bring!

 

Let's Talk about Talking to New Neighbours

4th June - 1.30pm - 4.00pm

This session is open to all those who have built relationships (or hope to) with people of other faiths, refugees, migrants and asylum seekers or welcomed people of fresh cultures into their church community.

 

Let's Talk about Little Church Big Community (Clergy)

12th July 10.00am - 12.30pm

This session is open to all those who have an optimistic view of the impact even the smallest church can have in shaping local community. It may also be helpful for those who want to find out how limited resources do not have to be a barrier to creating that vibrant spiritual heart.

 

Let's Talk about no Vicar is an Island (Clergy)

1st August 10.00am - 12.30pm

This session is open to all those who feel isolated in their role and context and to those who have experienced this dynamic and found ways to be meaningfully supported and engaged with others.

 

Let's Talk about Urban Issues

13th September - 10.00am - 12.30pm

This session is open to all those who work in an urban parish or worship in an urban setting – what is the distinct nature of their experience and is there scope for co-operative working and a new way to see living faith in an urban setting – especially places facing multiple issues of disadvantage.

 

Let's Talk about Dementia

1st October - 1.30pm - 4.00pm

This session is open to all those who have experienced supporting people with dementia and their carers in a parish setting or think this will be a part of their church experience in the near future.

 

Let's Talk about Drugs and Alcohol

8th November - 10.00am - 12.30pm

This session is open to all those who support people with drug and alcohol dependency issues and their families and carers. What practical support and signposting can we offer and how well resourced are we to take action or talk about addiction or substance misuse.

 

Let's Talk about Chilled out not Chilly - How to make December warm and relaxing

12th December - 1.30pm - 4.00pm

This session is open to all those who want to just come and be! Share the challenges of the frantic festive season and give a little space to remember what really matters. (Oh and possibly a mince pie or two!)
